The Avon Maitland District School Board has released a statement for employers, explaining the online learning expectations for students during the current Provincial lock-down and temporary shift to online learning.
Communications Manager, Chera Longston points out this fall's online learning period is different than last spring's.
"This fall's online learning period is different than the spring because attendance is being taken and students are online, live, with their teachers for 225 minutes and then they also have some on-their-own time as well, so that's different in that their attendance matters," said Longston.
The statement is an effort to reach out to the local community and employers.
"So we're just trying to reach out to the local community, local employers, just to keep them in the loop as well, so that they're aware of the requirements for students, so that they're not asking the students to come in for extra shifts at the grocery store or the pharmacy and that everyone is in it to support our students," added Longston.
Longston says they hope that by explaining the situation, employers will treat the online learning period the same way they would if the students were in the classroom.
Kindergarten to Grade 8 students will be learning from home this week and Grades 9 to 12 will be learning at home until January 25th.
