Local manor wins national event space award

A unique setting just east of Goderich attracted former Toronto residents Lisa Mok and Ezra Silverton to the area.

They were drawn to to a manor on Highway 8, which was named 2020's Hospitality Design's Best Event Space.

Mok says once they saw it, it just felt right.

“Seeing the detailing and the craftsmanship that was put into the property was absolutely incredible," said Mok. "And we learned a little bit about the history of the house and who previously owned it and everything just made it feel really right. And then we talked about how amazing would it be to share this home with other people.”

The home, known as Lune 1860, beat out 730 entries from around the world, including places like Dubai, Shanghai and New York City.

“When we designed it I was very adamant about the spaces being quite small, we wanted it to be really intimate," explained Mok. "The largest grouping you could probably have is what we call the day room and that would house about 45 to 50 people sitting down.”

Mok says their current situation has changed with COVID-19 restrictions but information is available online.
