Perth East passes 2020 budget

Perth East Council passed its 2020 capital and operations budget at their meeting on March 17.

After factoring in new construction assessments, the Township levy has increased by 4.71 per cent. The Township residential tax rate for 2020 based on 2019 tax policy will be 1.79 per cent, less than the 2019 residential tax rate. Every $100,000 of residential assessment will be taxed at $451.05 versus $442.96 in 2019 for Township purposes.

Some budget highlights for 2020 include Perth East's Joint Community Safety & Well-being Plan Project.

It also includes the Shakespeare Drinking Water System - Arsenic Treatment Project Phase 1. That includes Class Environmental Assessment study and design, numerous road upgrades and a Fire Department Inflatable Safety Fire House paid through Fire Department fundraising and donations.

Perth East will also add safety covers at railings in the Perth East Rec Complex and improvements at Newton Park, including emergency lighting and eavestrough repair and replacement.

Perth East ratepayers may calculate their estimated 2020 property tax bill by visiting the Township’s Property Tax Calculator at www.pertheast.ca/propertytaxcalculator.
