Grey Bruce Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker says although COVID-19 consumed the world, it is memorable how the people of Grey Bruce stepped up to face the challenge.
" I always try to find the positive, even in a situation like COVID, and the memorable there is how people have stepped up. Whether it be individuals, businesses, organizations and of course our front line workers, people across all industries have stepped up and shown true resilience and community spirit," he said.
He added despite the pandemic, there were many positive things that happened in 2020.
" The addition of long term care beds that have been approved in our own back yard. The Grey Gables facility in Markdale, was a big localized challenge and it's good to see that. Two new schools, one in Meaford and one in Owen Sound, (the Roman Catholic School Board for the St. Mary's High School). Funding for the hospitals, and of course, Markdale hospital moving forward," he explained.
Walker is looking forward to 2021, with the vaccine bringing a light at the end of the tunnel.
"We have our healthcare in place. We are making improvements in infrastructure, in broadband in our own backyard. A real big focus on apprenticeship, so again our youth have that opportunity to work. And I just can't say enough about all of the people who stepped up and continue to step up to get us through this," he added.
He says he looks forward to seeing some long awaited projects become reality in 2021.
"I always am an optimist, and I believe the dark days of COVID have taught us to reflect, and maybe slow down a little. Take more time with things that are really important, family, friends, and our Health. I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas, and all the best in 2021," he concluded.
