More social services relief funding coming for Perth-Wellington

Perth and Wellington Counties will both be getting a top up on social services relief funding that is being handed out provincially to help with COVID-19 costs.

Perth-Wellington MPP Randy Pettapiece says in a release from December 17th that the two counties will both receive a funding boost from the province. Perth's new funding is going to the City of Stratford in the amount of $441,500 and Wellington County will be receiving a sum just over 2 million dollars. The City of Stratford administers social services funding on behalf of the County of Perth. Funds can be used to renovate or purchase shelters and improve protection from COVID-19. They can also be used to create longer-term housing solutions, improve service delivery and prepare for future outbreaks.

With this latest funding boost, Perth County has now received just over 2.2 million dollars in social services relief funding from the provincial government, while Wellington has now received almost 5.4 million dollars.

“It’s so important to continue investing in local social services,” says Pettapiece. “As I’ve said in the past, homelessness, poverty and affordable housing are not just urban issues.”

“Our government continues to respond to the pandemic with significant investments for our municipal and Indigenous partners,” says Steve Clark, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing. “As the public health situation continues to evolve, we are providing more support, so our partners are in a better position to protect those who need it most.”
