The Grey Bruce Health Unit is concerned about five opioid overdose deaths within the last five days.
That includes two fatalities, pending coroner confirmation, and several others deemed 'of a critical nature.'
The incidents occurred in Owen Sound and smaller rural centres.
The health unit warns that people that use drugs are at significant risk of overdose due to the local street drug supply containing the highly toxic drug Fentanyl and/or Carfentanil.
Harm reduction strategies include not mixing drugs, including alcohol, not using alone and knowing how to access the overdose prevention line at 1-888-853-8542.
The health unit also lists further strategies: Use smaller amounts and do test doses to check the strength of the drug. Call 911 or go to the Emergency Department
The Good Samaritan Drug Overdose Act provides protection from simple possession charges when 911 is called for an overdose.
