A 26-year-old man is facing drug and weapon charges following an arrest and seizure by Saugeen Shores police.
On Wednesday at around 7:59 p.m., officers responded to a report of a disturbance at an apartment complex in Port Elgin and spoke to a male resident. Police then entered the apartment to ensure no one was in distress and found a loaded ASR 9mm semi-automatic long gun with a 15-round magazine laying on the floor of a bedroom without a trigger lock.
The officers were able to determine that the man was wanted by local police and he was arrested without incident.
The following day at around 2:27 a.m., officers executed a search warrant at the apartment and seized various calibres of ammunition, multiple firearm magazines, and a small quantity of suspected methamphetamine and fentanyl.
As a result, a 26-year-old man from Saugeen Shores has been charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, careless storage of a firearm/weapon/prohibited device/ammunition, possession of a prohibited device or ammunition, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of methamphetamine, possession of fentanyl, and failure to comply with an undertaking.
He was held for a bail hearing and has been remanded into custody.
