Huron OPP are looking into a report a driver in Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh was pulled over by someone impersonating a police officer.
The driver told police she was travelling south on Lucknow Line between Dungannon and Carlow around 1:30 a.m. on October 31st when she was pulled over by a vehicle with blue and red flashing lights.
A man got out the vehicle, approached the driver, and began questioning the woman to the point she felt very uncomfortable and became suspicious.
She stayed in her vehicle and reported the incident to police.
The suspect is described as being 5'9" with a slender build. He has dark, short hair with some scruffy facial hair. He was wearing a short-sleeve dark t-shirt with "Police" in white or grey lettering written on it. He had on cargo pants, a cheap looking tactical vest but no duty belt.
The suspect's vehicle is a dark SUV, possibly grey, navy, or black with a light bar on top.
If you are pulled over by an officer out of uniform you can ask to see their badge and warrant card. All officers will be able to provide you with the name of their service detachment , badge number, rank, and produce the badge and warrant card without delay.
If you think you are being pulled over by a police impersonator you should lock your doors and call 911. Do not get out of your vehicle. If possible, try and write down a description of the person and their vehicle and get their their license plate number if you can.
