The Guelph to Goderich Trail group has received the $100,000 they had requested from Huron County to help them with a tunnel under County Road 25 out of Blyth.
Board member Chris Lee says they estimate the tunnel will cost a total of $250,000 to $300,00.
“At this point now we'll go out and get some firm pricing. We're anticipating that kind of a cost based on the work we've done a few years ago and the initial study,” said Lee.
Lee says they had to put the project on hold for a while to get the re-surfacing done.
“We've had to put that on hold for a period of time and now we've got the re-surfacing done. Certainly there's a big demand now for that tunnel because there's an accessibility issue for people that are less mobile because you have to go up one side of road 25 and across and down the other, so it's also a safety issue,” added Lee.
The tunnel will be big enough for people walking or cycling to go through and at night when it's not been used, it could come in handy for wild life, rather than to across the road.
