Options for the homeless still needed in Huron County

Huron County's homelessness community has had a couple of meetings now and Warden Jim Ginn says they still have a room at a hotel in Goderich that can accommodate up to 28 people.

But Ginn said a major problem is finding housing for a group of people who no longer use that option.

“We do have a handful of citizens that have kind of lost their right to go into the hotel, just because of misbehaving and there's damage done or something to that effect, so they need a lot of help and a lot of support from the community,” said Ginn.

But right now they don't have a place to house those people.

“Right now we don't have a place to house them and, as summer ends and we move into fall, we have to start thinking about the winter again. So we've got a couple of thoughts and staff are looking into them and they'll bring that back to the next meeting of how we can house that section of people,” added Ginn.

Ginn said they do have vacancies and he believes that will allow them to accommodate the people that need housing over the winter.
