UPDATE: Body found in search for missing swimmer in Saugeen First Nation

Updated, September 15th, 11:06 a.m.: The OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit and Grey Bruce OPP Marine Unit have recovered the body of a swimmer who went missing in Lake Huron.

Grey Bruce OPP were called to the area of Second Avenue north of French Bay Road off Saugeen First Nation Sunday afternoon shortly after 4 p.m. for a report of a swimmer in distress. A witness saw the swimmer struggling in high waves.

The search for the missing swimmer resumed this morning and a short time into the search, police say they removed a body from the water.

The name of the deceased is not being released until next of kin are notified.

Original Post, September 14th, 5:20 a.m.:

A search is expected to continue Monday morning for a person who went missing in Lake Huron in Saugeen First Nation.

Just after 4 p.m. Sunday, OPP were called about a missing person in Lake Huron, at Second Avenue South, north of French Bay Road.

A witness last observed the male swimmer out from shore, in distress and struggling in the waves.

An OPP helicopter and two boats were involved in Sunday's search.

Also helping were South Bruce Peninsula Fire Department, Saugeen First Nation Fire Department and Saugeen Shores Fire Department, as well as the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre run by Royal Canadian Air Force and Canadian Coast Guard.

The search was put on hold at the end of the day on Sunday but expected to continue Monday morning.
