Excitement grows about Virtual Port Elgin Pumpkinfest

The excitement is building for Port Elgin Pumpkinfest as the event goes virtual for 2020 due to COVID-19.

Giant vegetable growers will still attend this year's Pumpkinfest, as the 34th annual event will take place on October 3.

Marketing Chair Ann-Marie Collins said growers will gather for a safe and physically distanced weigh-off, which will be broadcast online.

"They're still eligible and officially counted, and can possibly break some world records, we're always hopeful," she said. "Instead of a stationary car show, on Sunday, October 4, we're doing a rolling car show which will go through Grey and Bruce counties to showcases the cars that are signing up for that."

Collins added viewers can also check out local talent which was pre-filmed, and will be showcased during the event.

"The growers are so excited to be able to have somewhere that will be safe, for them to come and register and weigh in their vegetables, and the public has been impressed with some of the cars that are registered, and we've been showcasing them on our website."

People can experience the fun from the safety of their homes at pumpkinfest.org.

There will also be an online mega bingo hosted by the Port Elgin Lions club.
