Central Huron council has held its first in-person council meeting Tuesday, since the COVID-19 pandemic forced them to go to virtual meetings five months ago.
Mayor Jim Ginn said the meeting was held at the Libro Community Centre in Clinton to give them enough room to safely distance themselves from each other.
Ginn said after five months of virtual meetings an in-person meeting was a little different, but he felt it want quite well.
“I think it went fine. After five months of not meeting in person, it was a little different. Deputy Mayor Jewitt did come into the meeting virtually. So we have one online and seven present. We were quite able to keep our distance from each other.”
Ginn said the acoustics in the room were also very good and they were able to function without microphones.
“We were able to function, because of the low numbers, without microphones. So people at the back in the public section could hear me and council members without the use of microphones. If we start getting more members of the public, we may need to revert back to microphones.”
Ginn said they could likely fit all of their councillors into the council chambers but there wouldn't be any room for members of the public and, under their mandate, council meetings have to be open to the public, so he expects they'll be meeting at the Libro Community Centre for the foreseeable future.
