Structure fire destroys hay barn

A structure fire kept fire crews busy throughout the evening on Thursday.

Mapleton Fire Rescue tweeted at 9 p.m. on September 3rd that crews were called to a structure fire on County Road 10 and Concession 3 in Mapleton Township. A straw and hay barn caught flame, and the blaze completely destroyed the structure. Crews were on-scene well into the morning of September 4th suppressing the flames. Mapleton was assisted by Minto Fire Department, Moorefield Fire Department, Guelph-Wellington Paramedic Services and the OPP at the scene. No animals or people were hurt. There is no damage estimate at this time but the structure is deemed a total loss.

Mapleton Fire Rescue confirmed just before 9 a.m. this morning that crews had left the scene and turned it over to the owners. The roadway was closed for a lengthy period but has since been reopened by police.
