After living outside of the area for a few years, Listowel native Alan Mcarthur returned home and found an opportunity.
Mcarthur opened the Listowel Squash Courts on Monday, something he said can fill a void when it comes to an indoor activity.
"Especially throughout the winter, we find ourselves as a family being indoors quite a bit. So I thought something as a variety, something different and people of all ages can play," said Mcarthur.
He said squash is great opportunity for some physical activity in a large or small group.
"You can get lots of cardio, as much cardio as you would like. You can play as aggressive or non-aggressive as you like. It's very lenient, so I play my seven-year-old son and I've had my 55-year-old step-dad in here," said Mcarthur.
But his ideas go beyond just playing for the fun of it.
"I would love to have a league or a ladder placement where you can join and play kind of a season of a few months, play some different individuals around your skillset," added Mcarthur.
The facility is more than just the courts. It also has two washrooms, one with a shower and also has lockers.
Mcarthur has also set up a website where bookings can be made online. And depending on the level of membership, the courts can be accessed 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The two court facility is in the southeast side of Listowel on Rocher Road and the website is listowelsquashcourts.ca.
