Impaired driving charges laid in Georgian Bay crash

A 25-year-old woman is facing multiple impaired driving-related charges following a single-vehicle crash in Georgian Bay Township.

Provincial police said a vehicle crashed into a rock-cut on Muskoka Road 34 (Whites Falls Road) near John Buchler Road on Friday around 12:06 p.m.

The driver and one of the passengers allegedly left the scene. Two other passengers stayed behind while the vehicle burned. Those two passengers were triaged at the scene.

With help from concerned citizens and the OPP Central Region K-9 Unit, the driver and passenger were later found nearby.

Once everyone was accounted for, the three passengers were taken to Georgian Bay General Hospital for unspecified injuries and were later released.

The driver, a 25-year-old Orillia woman, was taken to an OPP detachment and charged with several offences.

- Operation causing bodily harm (three counts)

- Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs

- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

- Fail to stop at an accident resulting in bodily harm

As a result of the charges, the 25-year-old's driver's license has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days.

The accused was released from police custody with a future court date scheduled for October 15 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland.
