Goderich ready for long weekend at the beach

The town of Goderich is preparing for a busy Civic Holiday weekend and will be keeping an eye on the beaches.

Mayor John Grace says even though the Province announced last week that crowds of up to 100 people are allowed in outdoor spaces, the beaches have limited space.

"Even though we can have a hundred outside, in a larger space, we still have to stick to the ten in our social bubble. That doesn't mean that we can have a hundred in our social bubble. It's still only ten and that's where the miss-communication came in," said Grace.

The rules this weekend will be the same as they have been since the beaches were opened, practice social distancing, stay within your social bubble and follow public health protocols.

"You must practice social distancing of six feet, you must stay within your social bubble and you can't have any large groups. We ask people to please wash your hands as much as possible and to keep in consideration all of the public health initiatives," added Grace. "You have to remember that we're still in a pandemic. This is still COVID-19. So we're going to be extra careful and very vigilant on how we manage the beach and how we manage the capacity of the beach."

Grace says Goderich is a warm and welcoming community and want people to come and enjoy the beaches and the town. However, at this time capacity does not mean how many people the beach can accommodate but how many the beach can accommodate while they're social distancing.
