Arson charge laid in Goderich house fire

Huron OPP have charged a 23-year-old man with arson and other offenses in connection to a house fire in Goderich last week.

Around 12:52 a.m. on July 24th, provincial police and the Goderich Fire Department were called to a house fire on Bennett Street East.

Fire crews were able to get the fire under control and extinguish it. Police rescued a large dog that was trapped in the basement at the time.

Damage to the home is estimated at $100,000.

Police have now charged a 23-year-old man with arson-damage to property; cause damage or injury to animal - fail to provide care or shelter; and two counts of fail to comply with probation order.

He is still in custody and has a bail hearing on July 30th in Goderich.
