Goderich beaches fill up over the weekend

Goderich Mayor John Grace says the town's beaches were pretty popular this weekend.

Grace said shortly after 2 p.m. on Saturday it was determined they had reached capacity at all of the town's beaches and the couldn't allow more people on them.

"Everyone was abiding by the Provincial protocols as far as social distancing. But at about 2:15 p.m. we activated our contingency plan, which we put in place in case it got to the point where it was full," said Grace. "We do have a large contingent of staff in place, along with the OPP and along with by-law officers. So we are very well prepared and the capacity builds fairly quickly and at any time we will have to close all access to the beaches."

Grace added that they were able to open up access to the beaches again around 5 p.m.
