Inspection blitz targets commercial vehicles in Perth County

Three Commercial Motor Vehicles were taken out of service following an inspection blitz in West Perth.

There were seven inspections conduced in all, and three other drivers received warnings.

The checks included licencing, documentation, vehicle weight, and mechanical fitness.

West Region OPP responded to just over 1300 collisions involving CMVs in 2019.

The blitz took place on June 11, 2020. Members of the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) Team worked together to inspect Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMV) in the Municipality of West Perth.

The OPP investigates thousands of preventable commercial motor vehicle (CMV) collisions every year, making this a serious road safety issue. In 2019, CMV involved collisions made up just over 11% of OPP investigated collisions in the province, which is a slight increase from 2018. The OPP acknowledges and commends the many safe CMV drivers who contribute to safe Ontario roads. The OPP will continue to work with CMV drivers to aim to reduce the number of CMV-related collisions and resulting deaths and injuries on OPP-patrolled roads.
