Hundreds of people peacefully marched through Owen Sound Thursday to show solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement and the protests in the U.S.

The event was organized by Jill Lyman.

"I'm doing it for black people but I'm also doing it for white people to raise awareness and to educate them on the topic. I'm doing it for family, I'm doing it for people that were before us, for people right now, my children. I'm doing this just to spread awareness and educate," said Lyman.

At the Black History Cairn, a variety of speakers addressed the crowd.

There was a police presence at the peaceful march. Owen Sound Chief Craig Ambrose ways they were there to ensure peoples' safety and to see they adhered to social distancing rules as best they could.
