Bruce Power's Unit 3 marks 1 year of continuous run time

Bruce Power is celebrating 1 year of their Unit 3 reactor supplying constant energy to Ontario.

Unit 3 itself generates enough power to meet the annual needs of a city roughly the size of Ottawa. It is currently on pace to break the previous mark of 369 days of consecutive run time. It was restarted in 2004, and has been performing at the highest levels since. Unit 3 is also part of Bruce Power's Life Extension project along with 5 other reactors that will all undergo a Major Component Replacement, adding 30 years of life.

The Unit 6 Major Component Replacement began earlier this year and will be followed by Unit 3, scheduled to begin in 2023.

“This milestone, along with the site record set by Unit 1 in April and which is still ongoing, exemplifies the strong performance of our units as we provide a dependable source of energy to the people, hospitals and business across the province at a critical time,” said Len Clewett, Bruce Power’s Chief Nuclear Officer.
