Motherhood celebrated with a twist at CKHA this year

The Chatham-Kent Health Alliance has a safe plan for those wishing to send their love to hospital patients this Mother's Day.

"With Mother’s Day approaching this Sunday, we’ve been working on a plan to ensure we can safely deliver flowers to all of our in-patients in recognition of this special day," said CKHA's Director of Communications Fannie Vavoulis. "We are promoting these deliveries for everyone on Sunday, not just those celebrating motherhood."

Vavoulis said the hospital's leadership understands that CKHA patients are enduring difficult circumstances with significant visitor restrictions due to COVID-19 and many will not be able to see their families and friends in person this weekend. That's why the hospital has partnered with four Chatham florists and one in Wallaceburg to deliver flowers in a safe manner.

She said all five florists have worked with CKHA to determine proper sizing, acceptable flowers, coordinated delivery times, and other factors. Vavoulis emphasizes that the hospital will only accept flowers delivered by the five businesses to ensure the safety of patients, visitors, staff, physicians and the community.

The five florists permitted to deliver flowers to CKHA are:

  • Pizzazz! Florals and Balloons
  • The Purple Pansy Flower Boutique
  • Stan’s Flowers
  • Syd Kemsley Florist
  • Westbrook’s Flower Shoppe
CKHA said families and friends will need to contact the florist of their choice directly to order and pay. Orders and payment must be completed prior to Saturday at 12 p.m. Vavoulis said the deliveries will take place on Sunday between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Families and friends are being asked to only place one flower order per patient.

"Thank you to our community for your continued cooperation as we try to make the best out of a difficult situation," CKHA said. "If you have a loved one who will be staying in hospital this Sunday, we hope you will consider sending flowers to brighten their day."
