Several charges laid in Perth East collision

A 21-year-old man from North Perth is facing several charges after allegedly crashing a stolen vehicle into a hydro pole and hiding from police.

It's alleged the 21-year-old driver failed to stop for Stratford police on Friday morning, around 7:30 a.m.

Members of Stratford Police Services and Perth County OPP searched the area as part of a joint investigation. Officers were later notified about a purple Toyota Echo that was abandoned in a ditch at the intersection of Line 39 and Road 125 in the Township of Perth East.

OPP said the vehicle crashed into a hydro pole and the front wheels were still spinning when the vehicle was found.

With help from the canine unit and emergency response team, a 21-year-old man was found and arrested. He was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.

Police said the vehicle was previously reported stolen in North Perth.

The 21-year-old is charged with flight from a peace officer, failure to stop for police, careless driving, failure to remain, operation while prohibited under the criminal code, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, failure to comply with recognizance, and failure to comply with a probation order.

Police are reminding residents to keep their vehicles, homes, garages, and sheds locked.
