COVID-19 creates additional costs for Huron County

The C-A-O for Huron County says COVID-19 has created some costs to the county that are specifically related to the pandemic.

Meighan Wark says their concern remains keeping county residents and staff safe and that means looking after homeless people in the county now that the Out of the Cold program is over.

Wark says they've set up temporary housing opportunities for homeless people in the event there is an outbreak.

"Setting up temporary housing opportunities for them, should an outbreak occur in our communities and us needing to have those options available to them, but in terms of what that actually looks like, a week or two weeks down the road, it's very difficult to know," said Wark.

Wark says they'll continue to operate the temporary shelter for as long as it's necessary for the people that need it.
