Weapons charges laid by Huron OPP

Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Goderich resident with a variety of criminal offences after police responded to a disturb the peace call in Goderich earlier in March.

Just before 9:00 a.m. on March 21, 2020, Huron OPP officers responded to a Widder Street residence after receiving a call about a male that was observed yelling and shouting at neighbours and demonstrating some all-around unusual behaviour.

Officers responded and spoke with the intoxicated male and cautioned him to return inside the residence. Unbeknownst to the officers upon leaving the scene the accused retrieved an air rifle and pointed it at the officers as they drove away. Further, the accused was observed recklessly pointing the firearm at several neighbouring homes.

Police were called back to the scene and this time the male was placed under arrest and taken into custody.

A 28-year-old from Goderich has been charged with Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, Assault a Peace Officer With a Weapon, Assault With a Weapon, Disturbing the Peace, Mischief and Fail to Comply with Probation

He has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for June 1, 2020, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Goderich.
