Bluewater reaches agreement with BFIT to operate Bayfield Arena

The Municipality of Bluewater has finalized an agreement with the Bayfield Facility Initiative Team for the operation of the Bayfield Arena and complex.

The future of the arena had been in doubt for a few years, with the previous council even voting to pull the ice out of the arena.

Mayor Paul Klopp said now that they've reached an agreement, BFIT can get on with managing the facility, with some financial support from the municipality.

"We have a $100,000 that will go every year; $65,000 for operating and $35,000 will be in a budget for capital," said Kopp. "And if there's no money needed for capital, it can grow."

Klopp said that surplus could be used to cover the cost of any major capital improvement as that need arises.

"The Bayfield Complex Agreement was passed and so our BFIT group and the community can move on now with actually working there and we wish them success. We're all in this together and I look forward to see how it goes," added Klopp.
