Investigation into fatal residential fire concludes

The Owen Sound Police Service has concluded an investigation into a fatal residential fire.

On Saturday, March 21, shortly after 7:30 p.m., Owen Sound police, firefighters and EMS responded to the report of a residential fire on the east side of the city.

A neighbour told emergency crews that a resident may have still been in the home. Police tried to enter the residence but were driven out by heavy smoke.

Fire crews were able to contain the fire, and after a search of the residence, fire crews found an unconscious female in the home. Grey County EMS performed CPR, however, paramedics were unable to resuscitate the female.

The lone occupant of the residence, 63-year-old Deborah Hood of Owen Sound, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Owen Sound Police Service Crime Unit and the Ontario Fire Marshall's Office conducted a thorough investigation, and have determined the cause of the fire was not suspicious in nature.

No other details have been released at this time.
