Bruce County declares state of emergency

Bruce Country Warden Mitch Twolan has now declared a state of emergency in response to COVID-19.

Twolan says the decision was not taken lightly.

In a release the Bruce County Warden says Bruce County is being proactive in the fight against COVID-19 to protect the health and safety of individuals, and families.

Declarations of emergency are made under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act when an emergency requires immediate action to prevent, reduce or mitigate danger of major proportions.

“Bruce County will now have additional tools and resources to coordinate and mobilize quickly. We will also have the flexibility to re-deploy staff, if required. I want to emphasize that this is a precautionary step at the time. None of these actions are necessary now,” said Twolan.

Bruce County urges asks all residents to stay home, to practice physical distancing, and to practice proper hygiene protocols outlined by the Provincial Medical Officer of Health at ontario.ca/page/2019-novel-coronavirus.

COVID-19 updates related to Bruce County can be found at brucecounty.on.ca/covid19 and the Grey Bruce Public Health Unit at publichealthgreybruce.on.ca.
