A Wellesley man is facing charges for a weapons offence and impaired driving after allegedly fleeing the scene of a crash in North Huron.
The Ontario Provincial Police said a driver reported being rear-ended by an SUV while travelling east on Belgrave Road on Friday shortly before 5:41 p.m. The SUV drove past the other vehicle and the driver allegedly did not pull over following the collision. The victim followed the SUV until the driver ditched the vehicle at the intersection of Currie Line and Reid Road.
When officers responded they were able to locate the driver of the SUV who allegedly appeared to be impaired. After he was arrested, police said the man provided two breath samples at the Huron OPP Detachment and was allegedly above the legal limit.
As well, during a search of the driver's vehicle, police allegedly found three rifles and ammunition, which was being stored in a careless manner.
Dean Koch, 19, of Wellesley is now charged with operation of a motor vehicle while impaired, having a blood alcohol concentration over 80 milligrams, careless storage of a firearm and failing to remain at the scene of a crash. His driver's licence has also been suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded. He has been released with a future court date in Goderich.
