Local Conservation Authorities are concerned about the potential for flooding with up to 25mm of rain expected in the region between this evening and tomorrow
The Ausable Bayfield , Grey Sauble and the Saugeen Valley Conservation Authorities have all issued a special statement about watershed conditions with the risk of seasonal flooding of low-lying areas likely.
Snow cover varies throughout the region with between 3 and 6 inches of water content.
After the minor melt that occurred this past weekend, soils are saturated under the snow and any new snowmelt will quickly run off into ditches, streams and rivers.
Flows will increase and may reach spring runoff levels but unusual flooding is not expected.
High flows, unsafe banks, melting ice or other factors could be dangerous for recreational users such as anglers, canoeists, hikers, children, and pets.
Grey Sauble Conservation also says there is the potential for ice jams with some ice cover existing throughout the watersheds. The increase in water levels will likely mobilize the ice sheets and they may cause jamming and localized flooding
