A new private school to open in Clinton

One of two partners who hope to open a new private school in Clinton in September says there are no licensing requirements for a private school.

Liz Walsh and Molly Groves said their school will consist of a maximum of 15 students per guide from ages four to 12. Walsh said the idea for a different type of education grew out of several conversations with friends who have kids.

“To be a private school there is a policies and procedures manual that you must follow," Walsh explained. "When the school opens in September, someone from the Ministry does come out and inspect the school."

But she said they don't require a licence.

Walsh said their plan is that the school will grow organically with the kids.

“So right now our program's from four to twelve and as the kids get older and get into high school level, then we would hire another guide and open up a high school program," she said. "So we're starting small and then we'll grow organically to meet the needs of our students.”

Walsh said they don't have a building yet but they're currently negotiating for space in downtown Clinton so they would be within walking distance of things like parks and the library.

She said they haven't accepted any registrations yet, they're asking a registration fee of $11,000 per student. In the last few weeks, she said they've sent out 50 information packages to interested parents.
