South Huron works on climate change plan

South Huron's climate change officer says their committee has been working through the various stages of how the municipality might deal with climate change.

Stacey Jeffery said they started by attempting to identify the potential impact of climate change.

“Looking at the risks and vulnerability of those impacts and now we're moving into the planning phase," she said. "So next meeting we will be talking about different actions that the municipality can implement to address any of those top priorities.”

Jeffery added they're trying to identify some of the things that make sense for South Huron and what are some of the things they're already experiencing that need to be addressed now before they become more serious.

“Risks to municipal infrastructure, private property, specifically from flooding, heat-related and extreme cold-related impacts as well as an overall disruption to municipal service delivery,” she said.
