Blizzard blast continues into the night

Blizzard and snow squall warnings have lasted all day Friday and aren't expected to disappear anytime soon.

The storm swept into Midwestern Ontario Thursday and triggered cancellations and closures for the last two days.

Numerous collisions were reported across the area over the last 48 hours as vehicles went into the ditch. Some of the incidents included police cruisers as officers were pulled over to help those that were stranded.

Many roads were closed for extended periods of time and as of late Friday afternoon, the long list continued.

Snowfall amounts were expected to surpass 20 centimetres on Thursday, followed up by as much as another 25 centimetres on Friday.

Whiteout conditions should be expected to continue into the evening Friday and the weather event is expected to last until Saturday afternoon.
