Trustees with the Avon Maitland District School Board have are going to send a letter to Education Minister Stephen Lecce.
“We sent a letter back in May, when the government came out the e-learning and the class size average and moving supports out of the elementary schools. So, we sent them a letter then, and a lot of other boards did as well, around the same time, and then recently we've had boards starting to send more letters again,” said Board Chair Lynnette Geddes.
She said the board approved sending another letter at this week's board meeting and the letter will basically outline their concerns over the cuts that will directly affect the Avon Maitland board. She said they're concerned about secondary school teachers they haven't been able to call back and the impact increased class sizes would have on them.
Geddes said they already have split classes because most of their schools are small compared to urban schools, so it's already difficult to offer any breadth of programming at the secondary level and increasing class sizes would make it even more difficult.
Geddes said she's hoping to send the letter out today and copies will also be going to the Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson and Perth-Wellington MPP Randy Pettapiece.
