Midwestern

Sunday freeze across the region

Road conditions across Midwestern Ontario include ice and snow.

Snow blanketed the region Saturday night, covering a layer of freezing rain that had fallen through parts of the day and evening. Road conditions are described as slippery and snow covered. Some county and/or municipal departments declared a ‘significant weather’ event. That means caution is needed when travelling because it may take longer than usual to bring the condition of the roads back to a state of repair.

As of 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Georgian Bluffs ended its 'significant weather' event notice.

While we can expect some flurries Sunday, the freezing rain warnings have ended.

Hydro One crews have also been working through the night as clusters of power outages kept popping up. Although the clusters affect small groups of customers there are several. They are spread out over a wide area near Port Albert in Huron County up through Lucknow and Glammis in Bruce County, up to near Wiarton, south of Owen Sound and also near Mount Forest. Restoration times are listed as later Sunday morning. Ice build could cause more power outages through the night and residents are being asked to be prepared.

The weather has led to some cancellations, you can view the list by clicking here.
