Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson hosts eighth annual Remarkable Citizens Awards

Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson hosted her eighth annual Remarkable Citizens awards Wednesday night in Teeswater at the town hall.

The annual event celebrates local volunteers and their exploits in the riding, and Thompson said it's extremely gratifying to recognize and celebrate these special people, ranging from teenagers to senior citizens.

"From Mikayla Ainsley in Blyth and her recognition around the world for her essay on kindness, through to our amazing couple from Cargill that have fostered over 400 children, and everyone else in between," said Thompson.

Thompson say=id age is not a factor when it comes to being able to do extraordinary things for your community. In total, 37 citizens in Huron-Bruce were recognized, and all the nominations were submitted by local people. Thompson says hopefully the awards inspire others to get involved and better their communities.

"That's what I hope this program does. It's not only kicking off the new year, but I hope it serves as an inspiration to people of all ages to say 'you know what, if that person is doing it, maybe I can make a difference in my own way, as well," said Thompson.
