Huron County trying to streamline planning

Huron County is looking at some of its planning guidelines in an effort to remove obstacles to allow for more multi-unit residential development.

Denise Van Amersfoort, a senior planner with the county, said with multi-unit residential development, there's often a common list of concerns expressed by neighbours and other people in the community.

“This is an opportunity to outline the best practices for incorporating higher density residential development within established neighbourhoods,” said Van Amersfoort.

Van Amersfoort said there is a need for all types of housing in Huron County and they want to find a way to accommodate that demand.

“Our goal is to pre-zone more properties so that apartments would be permitted. This is something that'll be done in concert with residential intensification guidelines so we'll ensure that, as much as possible, these units are integrated in a sensitive fashion,” added Van Amersfoort.
