The budget process for 2020 in Brockton will be slowed down this year as council deals with an interesting but necessary issue.
Mayor Chris Peabody said they will be slowed down by the process of adding a new member.
"This year we'll probably be done last, just because of the process of getting a new councillor, and we wanted them involved in the budget," he said.
Mayor Peabody said they will select a new councillor on January 21, and that new member will need to be briefed and trained in the budgeting process. The mayor said there has been great interest in the vacant seat left by Chris Oberle.
"We have two applicants so far. The deadline is until January 14, so I expect in the new year we'll get a big rush, and I would anticipate, given the amount of interest in the community, we'll probably have about 20 people applying," he said.
