The Ontario Seniors Dental Care Program is now available in Huron County.
The program is a new publicly-funded dental care program to help eligible low-income seniors access dental care and it's estimated about 600 seniors in Huron County are eligible for the program.
The Huron County Health Unit is partnering with the Huron County Library to offer application clinics in libraries throughout the county.
Public Health Manager Tanya Sangster said when people come to a clinic they'll need to have their social insurance number with them, and if they're applying as a couple, they'll also need the social insurance number of their spouse. Eligible seniors must be at least 65 years old and residents of Ontario and have no existing dental benefits.
"Some of those services might include fillings, extractions, check-ups, x-rays and cleanings and it will partially cover dentures as well," she said.
The income threshold is $19,300 or less for a single senior and a combined income of $32,000 or less for a couple.
More information about the program can be found on the huronhealthunit.ca website.
