North Perth Council is going to start live streaming their council meetings next week.
Clerk Pat Berfelz says it's a decision by council to ensure the public can be as involved as possible, even if they can't be at the meetings in person.
"It's all about accountability and transparency, and this is one more step in regards to assisting the community with that. So it's for someone that's unable to attend the council meeting or just wants to check in at some point in time."
Berfelz says they wanted to give more access to people who can't necessarily make the meetings in person, and she says council is ensuring that everyone who presents at meetings or attends them is aware they are now going to be on camera.
"We brought forth a policy to set out how the community and anyone attending our meetings will be aware they're on camera, and sort of how we're hoping to roll out this new process."
The meetings will be live streamed on Youtube, with a potential partnership in the works with E-Scribe to host the videos and include things like closed captioning.
