Grant application being made for renovations to BMG Community Centre

The municipalities of Huron East and Morris-Turnberry have submitted a joint application for Federal and Provincial funding for renovations to the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre.

Co-Chair of the BMG Recreation Committee, Doug McArter explains they are planning a new front entrance out the east side, six new dressing rooms down the south side, and renovations to the kitchen and community hall.

"The first stage will be the new part, with the foyer and the new dressing rooms and then after that is up and running, working on the renovation to the kitchen and the community hall.   Nothing will be affected in the building.    The building can still operate as it's supposed to and hopefully with not too much mess."

McArter says they're looking at a total cost of about 4.7 million dollars and if their application is successful, 40 per cent of the cost will come from the Federal government, 33 and a third from the Province, and 26 and two thirds per cent from the municipality.

They'll likely know by next summer whether their application has been successful.    If it is, McArter says they could have shovels in the ground by April of 2021.
