A Huron County Public Health Nurse who attended an information meeting about sexual assault and healthy relationships says the Youth Justice Committee and several other agencies that deal with sexual assault have reported an increase in sexual assaults, and more younger people facing charges.
Amy Leduc suggests in some cases young people just don't know what is acceptable behaviour and what isn't, and maybe people just know more and are reporting more.
“There could be many reasons why this is happening, or maybe people just know more and are reporting more. So maybe we aren't seeing increased numbers, but we're just seeing increased reporting, which is good, but it just helps us to know that information and then we can help people know more.”
Close to seventy people attended the meeting at Central Huron Secondary School.
