Perth-Wellington MPP Randy Pettapiece, says Ontario Municipal Partnership Funding (OMPF) allocations for 2020 include over $10.9 million for his riding
Pettapiece said the government wants to ensure the funding is better focused on northern and rural municipalities that need it the most. He said they are maintaining the funding levels until the review is complete.
He added the information was released well in advance of the municipal budget year, which will help effectively budget for the upcoming fiscal year.
“Municipalities told us that they need information early to plan their budgets, and we listened. That's why we're announcing the allocations for the 2020 OMPF today — the earliest they have ever been announced,” said Minister of Finance Rod Phillips. “Today, we are confirming that building strong local partnerships with municipalities is an important part of our plan to build Ontario together.”
Next year, the province will invest $500 million in 389 municipalities across Ontario through the OMPF, which is the main general assistance grant to municipalities. The program primarily supports northern and rural communities. This funding can be used for local priorities, to support the specific needs of each community.
“Our government continues to review the OMPF to ensure it is sustainable,” said Pettapiece. “We want to ensure it is better focused on northern and rural municipalities that need this funding the most.”
The OMPF is based on a formula, which considers several factors including the number of households and assessments.
