Huron Shores Hospice hosts TEDx speaker next week

People in Bruce County can attend a Huron Shores Hospice event featuring the founder of Love Your Life to Death.

Yvonne Heath will tackle the topics of preparing for and accepting death to empower people to be supportive and to just show up.

Heath will help people become more comfortable in communicating with family, friends and themselves about end-of-life, death and grief.

She explained, "grief is whatever we face in our lives that makes our heartache. It really isn't just about end of life. Divorce, diagnosis, job loss, addiction: there's grief in all of that, so we grieve throughout our lives."

She added "if we talk about them before we are facing them, we can defuse the awkwardness, the uncomfortable feeling, the fear, and have logical conversations."

"And if we talk about, plan and prepare, and normalize these conversations at home, at school, at work,  then we can really learn how to be better prepared for ourselves, and for each other," she continued.

She is a registered nurse, TEDx speaker, award-winning author and TV show host. She has spoken internationally to medical professionals, business leaders and volunteer organizations.

The first session is on Monday at 7 p.m. at the Bruce County Museum, Southampton. The second is at the Davidson Centre in Kincardine at 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

There is limited seating available so people are asked to pre-register at huronshoreshospice.ca.
