North Perth Council approved a motion earlier this week to ask the provincial government to extend certain application renewal term limits.
Currently, many programs have a two-year re-application window, and North Perth Clerk Pat Berfelz said with programs like the EarlyON child care set up, having more than two years before it expires again would be more comforting for the staff.
"It's reassuring for the staff to know they have work beyond two years, for one, and in order to do the programming, and feeling like we're in it for the future," said Berfelz.
The request is to extend the term limit of certain programs beyond two years, to a max of five, in order to create more stability and less paperwork re-applying every two years for certain programs. Berfelz said it's a burden not just for her, but for the staff they've hired.
"To have to go through the process every two years, not being sure you're going to be the operator again, is rather disturbing," said Berfelz.
