The Committee of the Whole for Saugeen Shores is recommending to council that the town take part in a Municipal Innovation Council, in partnership with Nuclear Innovation Institute.
The M.I.C. is a three-year pilot project to find efficiencies, build smarter processes, and ensure sustainable municipal services. Similar models have been implemented across the province, as municipalities like Saugeen Shores try to find cost savings and implement efficiencies.
The M.I.C. project will cost the town $30,915 each year for the three-year pilot, for a total of $92,745. The recommended funding source for the project is through the provincial one-time Efficiency/Modernization Grant.
In August 2019, Saugeen Shores Council signed a Memorandum of Understanding with N.I.I. to coordinate the M.I.C. on behalf of participating municipalities. N.I.I. has created an opportunity for municipal innovation within its Advanced Technology Hub.
"As the host community for Nuclear Innovation Institute, Saugeen Shores is ready and eager to participate in this pilot project," said Mayor Luke Charbonneau. "The Municipal Innovation Council will be a generator of innovative ideas that will benefit our municipality and beyond."
