Perth County man charged for damaging election signs

A 22-year-old North Perth man is learning the hard way that it is against the law to damage election signs.

A concerned citizen contacted police after viewing a social media post of someone driving over a sign in the Millbank area.

Investigators were able to identify a suspect who now faces a charge of mischief under $5,000. A court date has been scheduled for December 9 in the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford.

The OPP continue to investigate and want to remind citizens that you can be charged with a Criminal Code offence of mischief for damaging property like an election sign.

Anyone that is convicted of mischief can face a fine imposed by the court or imprisonment of up to 2 years.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 1-888-310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or submit a secure web-tip at http://hc-cs.ca/ where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
