Youth In Action grant applications increase in Perth-Huron

Perth-Huron United Way will be announcing winners of their Youth in Action grants in about a month.

Director of Governance and Community Impact Megan Partridge said the number of applications continues to grow each year. She said, for the most part, it's up to the young people to decide on an issue that concerns them.

"We leave it up to the youth to come to us and make a proposal on a project for an issue that's concerning them with their peers. We've seen a lot around mental health the last couple of years, but many other topics as well, so it's really interesting to see the gamut of the different submissions every year," said Partridge.

She said they have to have an adult lead from an organization that applies with them to help with some of the reporting and the finances.

"It's helping them get a little bit of money, so up to a thousand dollars, to run a project that they see would help the youth and peers in their community," said Partridge.

Partridge said some issues are beyond the scope of the program, like major capital projects, but the actual issues are left up to the young people.
