The Greenock Swamp and Historic Cargill Promotion Committee updated Brockton Council on their first year of operation this week.
Shannon Wood, a volunteer and also the Communications Director with Saugeen Valley Conservation, said it was much more successful than they predicted in the first year.
"We're very, very happy with the results. We had a visitors centre there, as well as Margaret's Mercantile, which was a wholly new endeavour which showcased local wares and that sort of thing. So it gave the people more to do when they came to the hamlet," she said.
After a great first year, that success has caused the committee to realize that as the program grows, they're going to need more help. Wood said they addressed that need with council.
"We need someone to coordinate it. It's getting quite big, and now we realize what the potential is," she said. "We could grow further, but we really do need a coordinator that's going to get involved and help us out, coordinate volunteers and get things going, stay on top of schedules and plan for new events."
The Greenock Swamp and Historic Cargill Promotions Committee asked council to apply for a grant to secure funds to hire a coordinator, and council approved the request. Brockton will now send the request to the provincial government for approval.
